American Pest Management Inc. was founded in 1979 by K-State graduates Avtar and Sue Sachdeva. Avtar began his pest control career in 1957 with the Food Corporation of India. After graduating from K-State with a master's in biology and working for a local pest control company, he decided to build a company of his own in Manhattan, Kan.

With 20-plus years of industry experience, Avtar placed a yellow pages ad to launch American Pest Management. Within a few months, the company earned its first state contract with K-State, and continued to build on its service-focused, reputation-based success. American Pest Management now has close to 6,000 residential and commercial clients, performing more than 30,000 services each year.

Avtar and Sue retired in 1998, turning daily business operations over to their son and daughter-in-law, Ravi and Elaine Sachdeva. Ravi - like his parents and American Pest Management founders - is a K-State graduate, as well as a board-certified entomologist. Today, American Pest Management serves Kansas and Missouri through its Manhattan and Olathe offices - and still maintains several of the clients signed during its first year of business.

American Pest Management uses a holistic approach called integrated pest management (IPM). This means we have a range of pest control techniques to fit your circumstances and environment. IPM is about protecting the health of your home or business while also protecting your physical health and the environment. This approach considers pest control from every angle, incorporating treatment, cleanup and preventive services.

For instance, we use baiting and monitoring for specific pests, such as rats, mice, ants and roaches. And for basic interior protection, we offer both conventional liquid treatments, as well as allergen-free IPM vacuuming for people with small children or severe allergies.

This is also why our general pest services include pre-construction treatments, door sweep installation, tree trimming, and deck and gutter cleaning. These services make it tougher for pests to enter in the first place. It's all part of a larger plan to keep pests out of your space using the smartest methods possible.
