American Pest Management Inc. was founded in 1979 by K-State graduates Avtar and Sue Sachdeva. Avtar began his pest control career in 1957 with the Food Corporation of India. After graduating from K-State with a master’s in biology and working for a local pest control company, he decided to build a company of his own in Manhattan, Kan.
With 20-plus years of industry experience, Avtar placed a yellow pages ad to launch American Pest Management. Within a few months, the company earned its first state contract with K-State, and continued to build on its service-focused, reputation-based success. American Pest Management now has close to 6,000 residential and commercial clients, performing more than 30,000 services each year.
Avtar and Sue retired in 1998, turning daily business operations over to their son and daughter-in-law, Ravi and Elaine Sachdeva. Ravi — like his parents and American Pest Management founders — is a K-State graduate, as well as a board-certified entomologist. Today, American Pest Management serves Kansas and Missouri through its Manhattan and Olathe offices — and still maintains several of the clients signed during its first year of business.
